SPORTS FOR GREENER ENVIRONMENT SETS EYE ON ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION TOWARDS A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
As the world continues to grapple with the effects of climate change, more organizations are stepping up to play their part in conserving the environment. Sports for Greener Environment, a community-based youth group and a non-governmental organization, is among those leading the charge for Climate Change in Kenya.
Founded by Victor Ashinga, SFGE’s mission is clear: to conserve the environment and combat climate change through tree planting and garbage collection. Their efforts have not gone unnoticed, and the group is now seeking to spread the word about their campaign dubbed “A Tree a Dollar.”
“Our journey started with a simple idea – to combine our passion for sports with our concern for the environment. We believe that sports can serve as a powerful tool to engage and inspire young people to take action and make a positive impact on the world around them. We started small, organizing local clean-up events and tree-planting drives in our community. But as our efforts gained momentum and more young people joined our cause, we realized that we could make a bigger difference by scaling up our activities and reaching more people,” notes Ashinga.
With this campaign, Sports for Greener Environment intends to plant over 100,000 trees across the country in 2023. This is no mean feat, but the group is up to the task. They are passionate about their cause, and their commitment to the environment is unwavering.
“Our short-term plans include expanding our operations to other communities, schools, and sports clubs in the region. We want to empower more young people to become environmental advocates and leaders in their own right. We also plan to collaborate with local authorities and waste management companies to improve waste collection and disposal systems in our area,” added the founder.
According to him, Climate Change and environmental conservation is not a mean feat, and they cannot do it alone. They need the support of well-wishers and like-minded individuals who share their passion for conservation. That’s where you come in. By supporting Sports for a Greener Environment, you too can play your part in creating a greener, healthier future for generations to come, as this is a long-term project.
“In the long term, we envision a world where sports and environmental conservation are closely linked, and where young people are at the forefront of a global movement for sustainable development. To achieve this, we are committed to building partnerships with like-minded organizations and stakeholders who share our vision and values,” said Ashinga, who further called on stakeholders to come on board.
“We invite all stakeholders, including individuals, corporations, NGOs, and government agencies, to join us in this important mission. Together, we can create a healthier, cleaner, and more sustainable future for ourselves and generations to come. Join our movement today by donating just a dollar, and you be part of those helping the Sports for Greener Environment youth group plant trees and contribute to the fight against climate change. Your support will make a difference, and every tree planted brings us one step closer to a better world.”
