It was a momentous occasion for the World Environment Day, where Sports For Greener Environment in partnership with KEFWA, the leading welfare union for professional football players in Kenya, joined forces with Kamulu Community-Based Organization (CBO) to celebrate in style.

The event, held at the picturesque Kamulu historical grounds, brought together legends of the game, aspiring players, and passionate fans in a unique blend of sports, nature, and welfare advocacy.

The day began with the arrival of the Sports For Greener Environment group, KEFWA team, resplendent in their distinctive attire, setting the stage for a memorable event. Before the football festivities commenced, the team had the privilege of embarking on a detour of the archaeological discoveries at the park, immersing themselves in the rich history of the surroundings.

The serene atmosphere, coupled with the abundance of fresh air, provided the perfect backdrop for reflection, meditation, and a deep appreciation of the interconnectedness between humans and nature.

As the event unfolded at the Kamulu grounds, the KEFWA legends took to the field alongside local upcoming players, turning the tournament into a showcase of skill, talent, and camaraderie.

The enthusiasm of the fans was palpable as they witnessed their beloved football icons in action, bridging the memory gap between the stars they used to see on TV screens and the real-life heroes standing before them.

The tournament, a true testament to the spirit of unity, inclusivity, and fair play, was not only a celebration of football but also a platform to further KEFWA’s commitment to the welfare mandates of professional players. Amidst the cheers and applause, the event culminated in a prestigious award ceremony, honoring outstanding achievements and recognizing the remarkable talent displayed on the field.

During the event, key stakeholders were given an opportunity to share their remarks, highlighting the importance of environmental conservation, welfare advocacy, and the symbiotic relationship between sports and nature.

Among the speakers, KEFWA’s esteemed staff members, Dan Makori (Education Officer), Victor Ashinga (Founder and CEO for Sports For Greener Environment and Players Welfare and Recruitment officer at KEFWA), and John Baraza (Players Welfare and Recruitment), eloquently addressed the congregants, emphasizing the organization’s mission and its unwavering dedication to championing the rights and welfare of professional football players.

Dan, the Education Officer, stressed, “As KEFWA, we believe in the holistic development of players, nurturing their talents while ensuring they have access to quality education and lifelong learning opportunities. We are committed to empowering them both on and off the field.”

On their part, Ashinga and Baraza, representing the Players Welfare and Recruitment department, passionately expressed their vision, stating that their role goes beyond ensuring fair contracts and financial security. Ashinga also added on the importance of ensuring environment conservation measures as a collective responsibility that starts with everyday actions in our our surroundings.

“We are here to provide comprehensive support, including mental health awareness, career transition assistance, and personal development programs. We want to empower players to thrive in all aspects of their live”
